ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's golf team finished 12th at the Annika Intercollegiate at Reunion Golf Club Tuesday.
Unable to climb the team leaderboard, the Knights combined for just eight birdies and one eagle in a final round that was punctuated by clouds and rain.
"We knew going into this week we would have to focus on the experience of playing again the best teams and learn from this," UCF head coach Emily Marron said. "I saw a lot of progress this week and see the little things we still need to improve upon."
Junior Ashley Holder was once again the top finisher for UCF. Holder carded matching rounds of -1 to start the tournament and finished tied for 28th (71-71-75=217) after turning in a final round of three-over par (75).
Thanks in part to an eagle effort on the par 4 second, senior Mary Mulcahy was the only Knight able to move up the individual leaderboard in the final round. She finished the tournament at +3 and tied for 34th (72-75-72=219).
"I am really excited about The direction Mary is going in," Marron said of Mulcahy. "and [I] think her game can continue to grow with the more experience she has."
Sophomore Laura Sojo finished in a tie for 45th (72-74-77=223) while juniors Ayaka Nakayama (78-74-78=230) and Johanna Larsson (75-77-78=230) each tied for 53rd.
In team play, Southern California (-36) walked away with the team title beating second place Arizona (-13) by 23 shots. Arkansas (-10) climbed two spots on the final day to finish third.
Next up for the Knights is the Landfall Tradition, October 23-25 in Wilmington, N.C.
