ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's golf team is 10th after the opening round of the Annika Intercollegiate at Reunion Golf Club. Junior Ashley Holder scored among the top 20 among individuals on day one.

The event features many of the nation's top-ranked teams. UCF head coach Emily Marron says the only way to get better each year is to match up against the best.

"We are really excited about playing against this level of competition," Marron said. "I thought the team hung tough today and held our own. We had more of a group effort from top to bottom and that's what we need to compete week in and week out."

Holder led the Knights, carding a one-under 71. She is one of 14 players who are currently just a single-stroke outside the top 10.

Senior Mary Mulcahy and sophmore Laura Sojo turned in matching rounds of even par (72), while junior Johanna Larsson notched a 75 (+3) and junior Ayaka Nakayama shot 78 (+6).

In team play, Southern California leads the pack at -12 with Duke (-11) just one shot back. Texas A&M (-10) is just two-shots off the pace, with Arkansas (-4) and Tennessee (-4) rounding out the top five.

Second-round action is slated for 8 a.m. Monday. Click here to follow the Knights via live scoring.
