FRANKLIN, Tenn. (UCFKnights.com) - After the opening round of the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, the UCF women's golf team is in eighth place. UCF shot a combined 293 (+5) and are 11 shots back heading into round two.

The Knights got another strong effort from junior Ashley Holder who turned in an opening round of 70. Holder tallied five birdies and 10 pars in the opening round. She ended the day at two-under par and tied for ninth among individuals.

"Ashley has been playing very steady and consistently," UCF head coach Emily Marron said. If she can get some putts to fall this weekend she should be in the hunt to win."

Junior Ayaka Nakayama and senior Mary Mulcahy turned in matching rounds of 74 (+2) while junior Johanna Larsson carded a 75 (+3) and sophomore Laura Sojo shot 76 (+4).

After carding just four combined birdies on the front nine, the Knights notched nine more and an Eagle on the back nine. Coach Marron said she was proud of how the team battled back after a slow start.

Alabama jumped to the top of the team leaderboard with an opening round of -6 while Northwestern is only one-shot back at -5. Georgia and Virginia are tied for third at -2 and Auburn rounds out the top five at -1.
