ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 17 UCF women's soccer team blitzed the net in the second half but its rally fell short in a 2-1 loss to Florida Gulf Coast in exhibition play on Thursday night.
FGCU struck early in the 2nd minute when 2014 A-Sun Player of the Year Tabby Tindell dribbled from midfield into the left side of the box and connected to the far post.
Meaghan Mulligan added to the Eagles' advantage with her header from Shea Rhoney's free kick in the 18th minute.
UCF made a push toward the goal when sophomore Kayla Adamek started a run and forwarded the ball to senior Ashley Spivey, who sent an immediate cross to Cortney O'Connell but her shot was saved.
O'Connell put the Knights on the board just before the 70th minute after Bridget Callahan sent her a ball to the top corner of the box, where she buried it.
Adamek, Megan Fish and Hannah DeBose all took quality chances inside the box but none were able to break through before the final buzzer sounded.
UCF opens the season with a Top 20 matchup, welcoming No. 8 Florida on Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. It will mark the first time in five years that the Gators have visited for a regular season matchup - one that always elicits a stellar atmosphere.
Season tickets are now available for $30, good for one-general admission seat to all 2015 regular season home matches. As a bonus, season-ticket holders will also receive a special soccer scarf. The GOLD Pass, which includes one general admission seat for all home men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, softball, women's basketball and track & field events, is available for $90.
