Orlando, Fla. - A role model is defined as a person whose behavior or success can be emulated by another, especially by a younger person.
UCF student-athletes had plenty of opportunities to act as role models when they interacted with people at Ridgewood Park Elementary School for Junior Achievement's "JA in a Day" recently. Several student-athletes from various sports spent the day at the school and taught the children about being an entrepreneur and the importance of education.
The Knights went through an evening of training with staff members and volunteers from Junior Achievement to make sure they were prepared to teach their classes. Each of the student-athletes practiced a lesson plan and prepared educational games for the students at Ridgewood Park.
This is the third consecutive year UCF student-athletes have participated in "JA in a Day." It was the first time the Knights have visited Ridgewood Park as part of this program.
The Knights taught students between Grades 2-5 and even ate lunch and participated in recess with the children.
"It's great for the students to have a mentor in their life and someone they can look up to," said Ridgewood Elementary School Principal Vanessa Morrow. "I think today made a big difference in us and I think it made a big difference in the student-athletes. Both parties were excited to see each other and you could tell they were building a positive relationship."
