GOLD RIVER, Calif. (UCFKnights.com) -- The UCF rowing team took to the water twice on the opening day of the NCAA Championships on Lake Natoma on Friday.
Opening the day, the Varsity Eight boat, consisting of Olivia Hecimovich, Kaitlyn Ward, Lauren Aiello, Victorija Senkute, Ivana Krkljus, Olivia Staples, Zana Krakic, Ginni Dunlop and Crystal Victor, finished fifth in the second heat. Racing in an all-Big Ten heat that featured defending national champion Ohio State, UCF's time of 6:55.911 sent them to the Varsity Eight Repechage 2.
The Second Varsity Eight, consisting of Kristen Taylor, Ashleigh Boyd, Andrea Krebs, Jasmine Blais, Amy Compare, Alison Ponce, Julia Chase, Danielle Taylor and Abby Justinger, finished fifth in the second heat. Their time of 7:02.335 sent them to the Second Varsity Eight Repechage 2.
The Varsity Four squad, consisting of Catherine Harms, Carly Burleson, Lauren Wasko, Annie Thompson and Rachel Klunder, finished sixth in the third heat. Rounding out the morning session, UCF's time of 8:08.506 sent them to the Varsity Four Repechage 2.
In the afternoon Repechages, the Varsity Eight and Varsity Four squads each shaved seconds off their morning times.
The Varsity Eight finished fifth with a time of 6:47.122 and will advance to the C/D Semifinals on Saturday. The Second Varsity Eight finished sixth with a time of 7:05.746 and will also advance to the C/D Semifinals on Saturday.
Rounding out the first day of competition, the Varsity Four finished sixth with a time of 7:54.577 and will advance to the C/D Semifinals on Saturday.
