ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- Traveling to DeLand, Fla. with the goal of closing out the road schedule strong, UCF certainly followed through on its aim as the unit cruised to a 4-0 victory over Stetson Wednesday afternoon.
The Knights (11-6, 2-5 The American) stepped out to an early lead behind sophomore Cortney Cesarini and freshman Monica Matias with a 6-0 effort at No. 3. Junior Caroline Eberhart and freshman Kennan Johnson delivered a 6-3 run to clinch the doubles point at the No. 1 slot. The team currently holds a 32-13 mark in doubles play.
Junior Sofia Baptista carried the momentum with her at No. 6, securing the first singles point on the day behind a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. Johnson followed suit at No. 3 with a swift defeat of Stetson's Ashley Dean, 6-3, 6-0. Cesarini would go on to clinch the deciding point with a 6-4, 7-5 effort at No. 2.
The Knights' will conclude regular season play at home with a bout against Louisiana-Lafayette set to begin this Saturday at noon. The unit will then travel to Tulsa, Okla. to begin the American Athletic Conference Championship tournament kicking off April 15.
