GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- Four Knights recorded personal bests as the UCF track and field team completed the first day of competition at the Pepsi Florida Relays Friday in Gainesville.
A trio of Knights competed in the 100 meter hurdles, led by Johna' Whitker who placed 26th in a time of 13.71. Lia King had a personal best in the event, crossing the line in 13.96 seconds to place 38th. Finally, Devinn Cartwright took 40th in a time of 14.00 seconds.
Cartwright also ran in the 400 meter hurdles, recording a personal best of 59.55 seconds to place 16th. Sandy Jean took 19th in the event in a time of 59.85 seconds.
UCF's 4x400 meter relay team qualified for Saturday's final with a season best time of 3:40.29. The Knights had the sixth fastest time in preliminaries.
Amy Ankli and Kalleigh Forrester also ran personal records on the day. Ankli placed 36th in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 18:07.12. Forrester ran 10:52.96 in the 3,000 meter steeple chase, placing 18th in the event. With that time she broke the UCF freshman record in the event, which was 10:58.72, set by Andrea Morrow in 2003.
Two Knights finished in the 800 meters. Amelia Williams placed 19th in 2:10.52, while Rosie Chamberlain placed 31st in a time of 2:11.95.
UCF will continue competition at the Pepsi Florida Relays on Saturday.
