PALM COAST, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- In the second round of the American Athletic Conference Championship at the Ocean Course of Hammock Beach Resort, the UCF women's golf team opened up an eight-shot lead. UCF senior Monifa Sealy enters the final round tied for first on the individual leaderboard.

Sealy carded a second-round score of 71 (-1) and is now three-under par for the tournament. She shares the lead with SMU's Alexandra Rossi.

"We did pretty good today. I think everyone was pretty pumped up," Sealy said. "I told them `Let's do what we did yesterday and have lots of fun.'"

UCF sophomore Ashley Holder was instrumental in pushing the Knights further in front. She moved up seven spots after shooting a 69 (-3). Holder led the Knights with four birdies and was blemish-free on the back nine. She is now tied for third overall.

"My short game was better than yesterday," Holder said. "I definitely gave myself some birdie opportunities and got a little closer to the hole today."

Freshman Laura Sojo had three birdies of her own, turning in a 71 (-1).

Senior Fanny Cnops broke into the top 25 with a 75 (+3) and sophomore Ayaka Nakayama was just one shot behind with a 76 (+4). Both players are currently tied for 22nd.

"Today was a good day," UCF head coach Emily Marron said. "They played well and I was proud of them again. We'd like to maybe have a bigger lead. But I think, as I said, no lead here is safe. They know that, so we're going to try to come out and get farther up on these teams. I don't think we are going to rest at all tomorrow, we are going to come out and fight hard."

As a team the Knights are 2-over after carding 30 birdies and 115 pars through the first two rounds. Houston and SMU are tied for second at +10. East Carolina is fourth at +11 and South Florida rounds out the top five at +14.

Final-round action is slated for 8 a.m. ET Tuesday. The Knights will tee off at 8:50 a.m.
