CINCINNATI, Ohio (UCFKnights.com) - No. 6 UCF was unable to make a late-inning comeback in a 4-1 road loss to Cincinnati on Thursday night at Marge Schott Stadium. Senior third baseman Tommy Williams tallied two doubles and one RBI, while senior shortstop Dylan Moore added two base hits to lead the Knights' offense.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Cre Finfrock (6-1) provided the Knights (22-9, 2-2 The American) with 10 strikeouts in six innings of work and yielded just three runs. The last two innings were logged by senior pitcher Harrison Hukari.

Cincinnati (7-20, 1-3 The American) struck first with a solo homer by Ryan Noda to left in the bottom of the first inning. The Bearcats extended the lead to 2-0 on a round tripper to left center by Devin Wenzel in the next frame.

In the fifth inning, a bunt single and error placed a runner on second for Cincinnati before R.J. Thompson doubled to right, extending the home team's advantage to 3-0. The Bearcats' starter Ryan Atkinson (2-3) went a season-high five innings with six strikeouts.

The Knights answered in the sixth frame as Moore singled up the middle and scored on a double down the left field line by Williams.

After waiting through a 95-minute rain delay prior to the top of the seventh inning, Cincinnati sent the Knights down in order and extended its lead to 4-1 on a pair of base hits.

UCF was poised to start a rally in the eighth with back-to-back one-out singles by senior pinch hitter Jordan Savinon and Moore, but a Bearcats' double play ended the threat.

Game two of the series is set for 6 p.m. Friday, but inclement weather is expected, so follow @UCF_Baseball on Twitter for updates to changes in game times. The finale of the three-game set begins at noon on Saturday.
