NEW ORLEANS, La. (UCFKnights.com) - No. 15 UCF had a number of opportunities including the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, but left 13 runners on base in a 3-0 loss to Tulane Friday night. The Knights out-hit the Green Wave, 7-5, at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Freshman right-handed pitcher Cre Finfrock recorded another strong outing with eight strikeouts in seven-plus innings of work. The last inning was logged by senior lefty Harrison Hukari.
Seniors right fielder Erik Barber and catcher Jordan Savinon each registered a pair of base knocks to pace the UCF offense.
Tulane (22-14, 3-6 The American) scored two runs in the first inning and added a run in the eighth inning. The trio of Corey Merrill (2-3), Patrick Duster and Ian Gibaut (2 saves) helped the Green Wave become the first team to shutout the Knights this season.
The Knights had a pair of runners called out at the plate on an out-of-the-base-path decision in the fourth inning and outfield assist in the sixth frame. UCF also had situations with a runner at third and less than two outs in the second, fourth and sixth frames, but were unable to drive home a run.
The first pitch on Saturday is set for 3 p.m. Eastern, while the finale Sunday begins a 2 p.m.
The Knights return home on April 22 at 6:30 p.m. to host North Florida in the final Dollar Dog Knight of the season. Single-game tickets for the 2015 baseball season are currently on sale by clicking here or calling 407-823-1000.
