ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF senior Zach Rodgers fanned seven and tossed his second-straight complete-game in the 12th-ranked Knights' 5-1 win over UConn Sunday. The offense was paced by senior first baseman James Vasquez, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

"It was another tremendous outing for Rodgers and once again, he put the team on his back," head coach Terry Rooney said. "Our best pitcher rose up and that is what we needed. I felt like today we had some better at bats as the game went on. It was a very good team win on Championship Sunday."

UCF (25-12, 4-5 The American) tallied 11 base hits in salvaging the final game of the series vs. UConn (22-13, 5-4 The American). Senior shortstop Dylan recorded his team-leading 17th multi-hit game with a pair of base knocks.

After UConn scored an unearned run in the first inning, Moore led off with a single to center, then a fielder's choice and an error placed a runner at second base. Driving in the first run of the game was Vasquez with a base knock to center field, 1-1.

In the third inning, Vasquez began a rally with a one-out single up the middle. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, the Palm City, Fla., native crossed the plate on a single to center by senior right fielder Erik Barber, 2-1.

The Knights extended their lead in the fourth inning with three runs on four hits. Moore singled through the right side and moved to third on a hit-and-run executed by freshman left fielder Kyle Marsh.

Senior third baseman Tommy Williams, who was named to the Golden Spikes watch list on April 9, increased the advantage to 3-1 on a single to center field. The big hit for UCF came from Vasquez with a two-run double into the right-center gap, 5-1.

UConn was led by Max McDowell with a pair of base hits, while Bobby Melley drove in the lone run on a sac fly in the first inning. The loss was given to Jordan Tabakman (2-3), who went 3 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.

UCF hits the road for four games beginning on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at No. 11 Miami. The Black and Gold travel to Tulane for a three-game set that starts on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Knights return home on April 22 at 6:30 p.m. to host North Florida in the final Dollar Dog Knight of the season. Single-game tickets for the 2015 baseball season are currently on sale by clicking here or calling 407-823-1000.
