TAMPA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- The UCF track and field team earned 11 first place finishes out 19 events en route to winning the USF Triangular Meet Saturday in Tampa. The Knights scored 162.5 points to defeat runner-up USF (131.5) and third place FIU (77).

Nine of the 11 events won by the Knights came on the track, including freshman Kalleigh Forrester's victory in the 3,000 meter steeple chase. She was unable to top her UCF freshman record set two weeks ago, but crossed the line in 10:59.44.

Both of UCF's relays came out on top as well. The 4x100 meter relay team of Briana Vaughn, Christal Peterson, J'Nea Bellamy and Kirsten Nieuwendam won in 45.20 seconds, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Sandy Jean, Terika Henry, Nieuwendam and Ashley Jocelyn earned first in a time of 3:45.89.

The Knights' put three in the top four in the 100 meter hurdles, including champion Johna' Whitaker, who recorded a personal best time of 13.50 seconds. Devinn Cartwright and Lia King, who finished third in 13.68 and fourth in 13.76, notched personal records as well.

Jocelyn took home the gold in the 400 meters, earning seven points with a time of 54.20 seconds. The Knights put Peterson and Henry in the top five as well. The former recorded a personal best of 56.09 seconds to place second, while the latter took fifth in 56.98 seconds.

A trio of UCF sprinters earned the squad another 12 points in the 100 meter dash. Bellamy won the event in a wind-aided 11.46 seconds. Vaughn and Brittany Barber, also with wind-aided times, placed second in 11.55 and fifth in 12.15 seconds, respectively.

Ne'Ausha Logan earned gold in the 800 meters, finishing in a season-best time of 2:08.62. She topped teammate Rosie Chamberlain less than a second. The freshman came in second in 2:09.57.

Also in the winner's circle was Jean. The senior won the 400 meter hurdles in a season-best 59.82 seconds. Cartwright was right behind her in second, crossing the line in 1:02.45 for five points.

The Knights took first, second and third place in the 200 meter dash, led by Bellamy's 23.69-second first place finish. Vaughn was second in 23.98 seconds, while Nieuwendam placed third in 24.32.

Kalen Hambrick and King earned UCF its two field event victories on the day. Hambrick won the hammer throw with a mark of 56.35m/184-10, which was just .01 off her personal best. King earned a first place finish in the triple jump, recording a distance of 12.15m/39-10.50.

The Knights will be back in action next weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays. The competition takes place in Walnut, Calif.
