ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - On a gorgeous afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex, the Knights secured the doubles point with a 7-5 triumph by junior Caroline Eberhart and freshman Kennan Johnson and used the momentum to post a 5-2 victory on Monday. Junior Clare Mendell, sophomore Cortney Cesarini, freshman Monica Matias and Eberhart notched singles victories.

UCF (6-4, 2-3 The American) found itself down early in doubles and knotted the match at 1-1 with a 6-4 victory by Cesarini and Matias at No. 2. The top-pairing in Eberhart / Johnson came through with a hard-fought 7-5 win.

East Carolina (9-4, 1-1 The American) tied the contest at one after Johnson was forced to retire. The Knights responded with three-straight wins to clinch the match.

Matias tallied a quick 6-3, 6-1 win over Katie Hoch at No. 5. A straight-set victory was registered by Eberhart at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2. The match was secured at No. 2 when Cesarini topped Michelle Castro, 6-2, 6-4.

After falling in the first set, 6-3, at No. 4, junior Clare Mendell posted a 6-3 victory to force a super tiebreaker. The Canton, Ga., native went on to take it with a 10-6 win.

The Knights also saw junior Annika Hepp win a super tiebreaker of her own at No. 7, 10-3, after falling in the first set, 6-2, and rebounding to win the second frame, 6-3.

UCF continues a five-match homestand on Wednesday at noon against Furman.
