GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's golf team finished fifth at the 2015 SunTrust Gator Invitational Sunday. Senior Fanny Cnops led the way for the Knights, finishing tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard.
In her final effort, Cnops notched three straight birdies on holes 12-14 helping secure her first top 10 finish of the season. UCF Head Coach Emily Marron knows that having her lead the team will be important down the stretch.
"Fanny has been making some good changes in her swing and working really hard," Marron explained. "She's regaining her confidence and you can tell she is feeling comfortable again competing. Having her at full force will be really important to us going into post season play."
The Knights battled against a tough course all weekend climbing as high as fourth at the end of round two. Arizona took the early lead and never relinquished it while host team Florida held on to second all three days.
In the final round, UCF overtook Ohio State who began the day in third but was unable to hold off Denver (4th) and Florida State (3rd) who each broke into the top five.
Four Knights finished in the top 25 among individuals, including Cnops (T8th), sophomore Ashley Holder (T21), freshman Laura Sojo (T21) and senior Monifa Sealy (T24).
Junior Paola Robles tied for 30th competing as an individual while sophomore Ayaka Nakayama finished tied for 61st.
The Knights will wrap up regular season play March 27-29 at the LSU Classic in Baton Rouge, La.
