TAMPA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF men's basketball team dropped its final game of the regular season Wednesday night, falling on the road to USF by a score of 74-45. The Knights will next play in the American Athletic Conference Tournament, beginning next Thursday in Hartford.
UCF (12-17, 5-13) shot just 26.4 percent from the floor and went 2-for-20 from beyond the arc in the defeat. The Knights recorded just seven assists on 14 field goals and turned the ball over 17 times, which led to 17 USF points.
The Bulls (9-21, 3-14) shot 49.2 percent from the field and went 5-of-10 from three-point range. USF outscored UCF 42-24 in the paint and 13-5 on the fast break. The Bulls outrebounded the Knights 43-37 in the contest.
USF's duo of Bo Zeigler and Troy Holston, Jr. led the way, each recording a double-double. Zeigler went for 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Holston racked up 19 points and 10 points. Both players finished with four on the offensive glass.
Unable to get into any rhythm offensively, junior Staphon Blair was the only UCF player to reach double figures. The forward finished with 12 points, four blocks and two steals. Junior Shaheed Davis gave good minutes off the bench, scoring eight points and grabbing seven boards.
UCF will turn its attention to The American Championships set to be played next week at the XL Center. The Knights be either the eight or nine seed in the tournament, playing Thursday at 3:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
