ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - No. 6 UCF scored four runs in the seventh inning, but the rally came up short in an 11-5 loss to No. 22 Florida Atlantic Tuesday at the UCF Baseball Complex. The Knights tallied 11 hits led by senior left fielder JoMarcos Woods with three and classmate Tommy Williams with two.
After FAU (23-6) opened the scoring with four runs in the first inning, senior shortstop Dylan Moore lined a 2-2 pitch over the fence in left for a homer. The Yorba Linda, Calif., native registered his second leadoff homer and ninth round tripper of the campaign.
With UCF (22-8) facing a 10-1 deficit, the eighth inning began with a solo shot by senior first baseman Jordan Savinon into the Knights' bullpen down the right field line. Freshman second baseman Kyle Marsh blasted a two-run shot to left, cutting the FAU advantage to 10-4. The rally continued as senior right fielder Erik Barber singled through the left side and scored on a base hit to right center by Williams, 10-5.
The Knights saw a number of pitchers on the mound including seniors Parker Thomas, Spencer Davis, juniors Harrison Hukari, Ryan Meyer, sophomore Trent Thompson, freshmen Eric Hepple and Brad Rowley. Rowley struck out a team-high three batters in 1.2 innings of relief.
FAU starter Sean Labsan (2-0) went six innings and recorded 10 strikeouts to notch the victory. C.J. Chatham drove in three key runs with a two-out triple in the fourth, while Brendon Sanger and Ricky Santiago each posted three this.
The top-25 tilt featured the third-largest crowd of the season with 1,685 fans coming through the gates. It was also the longest game of the campaign for the Knights at just over four hours.
