BATON ROUGE, La. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's golf team is in sixth place after the opening round of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic. Host team LSU has the early lead as 16 teams teed it up Friday morning at the University Club.
Senior Monifa Sealy and sophomore Ayaka Nakayama turned in matching rounds of 76 (+4) to lead the Knights on day one. Senior Fanny Cnops carded a 77 (+5) and sophomore Ashley Holder shot a 78 (+6). Junior Paola Robles rounded out team scoring with a 79 (+7).
UCF junior Mary Mulcahy, who is competing as an individual, put together the best round of the day with a 75 (+3). Mulcahy is tied for 13th on the individual leaderboard.
In team play, TCU trails LSU by three shots with Tulane (3rd), Denver (4th), and Mississippi State (5th) rounding out the top five. After getting a feel for the course and the competition, the Knights will look to move up the leaderboard in round two.
