ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Three events were held on the first day of competition at the UCF Invitational before rain cut short the action on Friday. The meet will continue Saturday with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and running events set to start at 2:30 p.m.
The men's and women's javelin and the women's hammer throw made up the day's events, and the men's hammer - which was scheduled to be the last event of the afternoon - had to be rescheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. due to inclement weather.
The Knights only had two student-athletes in competition, Kalen Hambrick and Tara Daniels in the hammer. Hambrick took second place with a throw of 54.75 meters or 179 feet, seven inches. She threw the same distance last weekend at the Black & Gold Challenge.
Daniels placed ninth in the event. The redshirt-freshman hurled the hammer 44.78m/146-11. Last weekend she recorded a mark of 45.16m/148-02.
Nathan Knox of Florida Tech and Onalee Collins of USF won the men's and women's javelin, respectively.
