ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Junior Caroline Eberhart tallied a singles victory during the Knights' 6-1 loss to Tulsa on Wednesday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex.
After dropping the first set, 7-5, Eberhart rebounded with a 7-4 tiebreaker victory in the second frame at No. 1. The super tiebreaker that determine the third frame was controlled by the Mishawaka, Ind., native, who posted a 10-4 triumph.
The Knights fell behind 1-0 early in doubles. Despite being down 5-1 in their match at No. 3, sophomore Cortney Cesarini and freshman Monica Matias continued battling for UCF (7-5, 2-4 The American) and cut the deficit to 5-4. Tulsa (9-7, 1-0 The American) went on to close the frame, 6-4, to win the opening point.
Freshman Kennan Johnson and Eberhart were locked in a tight bout at No. 1, which saw the Knights ahead 5-4 when the doubles' point was decided.
Junior Sofia Baptista pushed her match at No. 6 to three sets with a victory in the in the first set, 6-1. After falling in a tiebreaker in second, 7-5, Tulsa ended up securing the fifth point with a 10-6 win in the super tiebreaker.
UCF concludes a five-match homestand on Saturday against Temple with the first serve set for 2 p.m.
