OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF rowing team followed a week of practice in North Carolina with a strong showing at the Cardinal Invite in Oak Ridge over the weekend.
On Saturday, the Knights turned in their best finish in the first race of the weekend. The First Varsity Eight boat, consisting of Olivia Hecimovich, Kaitlyn Ward, Lauren Aiello, Viktorija Senkute, Ivana Krkljus, Olivia Staples, Zana Krakic, Ginni Dunlop and Erin Corrigan, edged Oklahoma and Michigan State to finish second with a time of 6:03.9.
Later that afternoon, the 1V8 finished ahead of Louisville and Kansas for another second place finish. The boat shaved three seconds off its time, finishing in 6:00.8.
The Second Varsity Eight boat, consisting of Kristen Taylor, Ashleigh Boyd, Andrea Krebs, Jasmine Blais, Alison Ponce, Amy Compare, Carly Burleson, Danielle Taylor and Abby Justinger, collected a pair of third place finishes on Saturday.
The Varsity Four squad, consisting of Catherine Harms, Lauren Wasko, Crystal Victor, Dani Burton and Brianne Addison, raced four times on the weekend, lining up against Minnesota, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Louisville, Notre Dame, Kansas and Yale.
The Knights return to action against Columbia in Melbourne, Fla., this weekend. UCF's next large regatta will be the Knecht Cup in West Windsor, New Jersey. The two-day event begins April 11.
