ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - After dropping a close bout 4-3 against Cincinnati on Saturday, the Knights fell short 5-2 against the Lady Tigers Sunday morning. On day two of their trip to Memphis, UCF claimed the doubles point early on and freshman Monica Matias delivered a 6-3, 6-2 victory to close out the weekend at the Eldon Roark Tennis Center.

UCF (2-2) continued its run on the doubles courts, securing two of the three wins needed to notch the doubles point. Juniors Sofia Baptista and Clare Mendell teamed up for a tough match at No. 2, signing off on a 6-4 triumph. Backing the efforts of their teammates were Matias and sophomore Cortney Cesarini, who made quick work 6-2 at No. 3.

Memphis (5-2) entered today's match ranked No. 58 in the country and proved just that. The Lady Tigers won three matches in straight sets, but the Knights certainly tested their opponent. Cesarini pushed her match to a third set after winning the second 6-4 but dropped the deciding frame 1-6. Baptista claimed the first of three 6-2 but lost close decisions 5-7, 4-6.

As the Knights' only singles winner on the day, Matias continued to find success. The Puerto Rico native claimed her point in straight sets, recording a 6-3, 6-2 performance at No. 6.

UCF aims to rebound at home Feb. 11 as the squad is set to take on Bethune-Cookman at 2 p.m.
