PONTE VEDRA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - On a cool, windy day at Sawgrass Country Club, the UCF men's golf team wrapped up the first day of competition at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational in 14th place Friday.
The Knights were 30 strokes over par on the day, 22 strokes off the lead. North Florida, the host school for the tournament, was 8-over to hold a one-stroke lead over second-place Oklahoma State.
Sophomore Ryan Stovash and freshman Manuel Elvira led the way for the Knights. Both carded rounds of 77 (+5) and are tied for 30th after one round of play. Linus Vaisanen is tied for 52nd after shooting a 79 (+7) Friday. Federico Zucchetti (85, +13) rounded out the team scoring on day one. Jose Joia rounded out the Knights' lineup, posting a 14-over 86.
Second-round action is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
