NEW YORK (UCFKnights.com) - Anne-Marie Blaney won the 5,000 meters and Kalen Hambrick placed second in the weight throw to lead the UCF women's track and field team in day one action at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Friday.

Blaney, who has set three individual school records during this indoor track and field season, added a meet record to her resume Friday. The junior won the 5,000 meters in an AAC Championship record time of 16:32.73.

Trailing UConn's Lauren Sara during the second to last lap, Blaney made her move. She passed Sara just as the gun sounded for the race's final lap and never looked back. Blaney extended her lead and went on to earn the Knights 10 points in the event.

Hambrick earned UCF another eight points in placing second in the weight throw. She threw a season and personal best with a mark of 19.01 meters.

The Knights finished day one with 23 total points and are in fifth place out of 11 teams heading into the final day of competition.

Devinn Cartwright earned the Knights three points, placing sixth in the pentathlon. She won the 60 meter hurdles in 8.69 seconds and placed third in the long jump with a distance of 5.46 meters on the way to 3,534 total points.

UCF's final two points on Friday came from the distance medley relay. Clair Castillo, Sandy Jean, Amelia Williams and Laura Korsmit combined to take seventh in a time of 12:03.00.

The Knights had a total of 13 entrants qualify for finals in their respective events on Friday.
