Chamberlain Breaks Freshman Record

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UCFKnights.com) - Freshman Rosie Chamberlain's record setting performance in the 800 meters highlighted the Knights' first day of competition at the Tyson Invitational Friday.

Chamberlain, who broke the UCF freshman record her last time out with a time of 2:11.26, bested her previous record by over a second. She placed eighth in the event, crossing the line in 2:09.96, just less than a second and a half off of the school record.

Caroline Pauls and Amelia Williams joined Chamberlain in the 800m, placing 24th and 27th respectively. Pauls ran a time of 2:13.24, while Williams finished in personal best time of 2:13.63.

A trio of sprinters competed in the 60 meter dash on Friday, as J'Nea Bellamy advanced to the semifinals. Bellamy had the 23rd best time in the preliminaries, crossing the line in 7.51, which tied her season best. Her time of 7.53 took 21st in semis.

Briana Vaughn ran a season best time of 7.52 seconds to take 26th, while Kirsten Nieuwendam placed 42nd in a time of 7.60 seconds.

All three Knights in the 400 meters ran their best time of the season on Friday. Ashley Jocelyn placed 36th in a personal record time of 55.23 seconds. Sandy Jean's time of 56.42 took 49th, while Terika Henry recorded a personal best of 56.57 to take 52nd.

A pair of Knights concluded UCF's run on the track in the 60 meter hurdles on day one. Devinn Cartwright placed 41st in 8.70 seconds and Lia King took 46th in a season best 8.77.

Kalen Hambrick and Tara Daniels both placed in the top 30 in the weight throw. Hambrick placed 17th with a throw of 18.16 meters. Daniels, who threw a personal best on Friday, recorded a mark of 17.09 meters.

The Knights will continue competition at the Tyson Invitational Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. ET. It will be televised on SECNetwork+.
