TAMPA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - This round goes to USF.

A strong second half for the Knights wasn't enough to carry the UCF women's basketball team to a win on Tuesday night against the Bulls. UCF fell to its rival, 91-68.

The Knights (7-15, 3-8) kept it to 6 points after the break, 46-40, but it wasn't enough of an offensive boost after heading into the locker room facing a 17-point halftime deficit.

Still, UCF had its bright spots. The Knights posted their best field goal percentage of conference play this season, converting 28-of-59 (.475).

In the showdown of the American Athletic Conference's top two scorers, UCF sophomore Zykira Lewis netted a game-high 27 points, edging USF's Courtney Williams' 26.

Senior forward Brittni Montgomery had a productive day with 19 points, 9 rebounds and a career-high 5 assists - by far her best outing of league play.

UCF and USF (18-4, 9-1) kept it close for the first eight minutes, and when Tampa native Aliyah Gregory sank a jumper from the baseline, she gave the Knights a 13-10 lead.

The Bulls used back-to-back 3-pointers from Laura Ferreira and Laura Canedo to quickly swing the momentum, igniting a 14-4 spurt. The difference-maker, though, was Williams, who racked up 22 points in the first 20 minutes.

The Bulls opened up the second half with three 3-pointers in the first three minutes. They were able to ride out their comfortable lead the rest of the way.

UCF returns to CFE Arena for Saturday's Knights for Education matchup against SMU at 2 p.m.
