Blaney Breaks Record as Knights Compete at Kentucky Invite

LEXINGTON, Ky. (UCFKnights.com) - Anne-Marie Blaney broke her own school record in the one mile run and the Knights finished with four placing in the top three on the day as UCF competed in the Kentucky Invitational Saturday.

Blaney placed second in the mile, recording a time of 4:54.68. She was just less than half of a second behind the winner - Ann Eason of Eastern Kentucky - who won in 4:54.21. Blaney broke her own record of 5:00.93 set in February of 2013.

Freshman Rosie Chamberlain also took home second place, finishing as the runner-up in the 800 meters. She crossed the line in 2:14.40. Teammate Caroline Pauls was just behind her at 2:14.80 and took sixth place.

The Knights' final top three finisher on the track was Ashley Jocelyn. She took home third place in the 400 meters, recording a time of 56.00 seconds. Allison Lampert also placed third in her event, leaping 1.65 meters in the high jump.

UCF totaled 16 student-athletes in the top 10 in their respective events.

Briana Vaughn, J'Nea Bellamy and Christal Peterson all finished with nearly identical times in the 60 meter dash. Vaughn took sixth in 7.58 seconds, Bellamy was seventh in 7.59 seconds and Peters was eighth in 7.59.

Devinn Cartwright took home seventh in the 60 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.66 seconds. Bellamy and Peterson also took eighth (24.60) and 10th (24.76), respectively, in the 200 meter dash.

Sandy Jean, Amelia Williams and Laura Korsmit all took top 10 finishes on the track as well. Jean was sixth in the 400 with a time of 57.71, Williams ran a time of 5:11.93 in the mile to place ninth and Korsmit took 10th in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:15.84.

Joining Lampert with successful days in the field events were NaKiya Russell, who placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.74 meters, and Tara Daniels, who took home 10th in the shot put after recording a distance of 13.94 meters.

UCF will next compete at the Samford Invitational and Multi in Birmingham, Ala. on Jan. 21.
