ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF's Everyday Champion student-athletes continue to shine in the classroom. For the Fall 2014 semester, the Knights recorded a 3.10 grade-point average (GPA) and have now earned a department-wide GPA of 3.0 or better for a 14th consecutive term.
The 3.10 GPA for the fall semester is the second-best mark in school history. Eleven of UCF's 16 teams came in at or above the 3.0 threshold for the semester. A school-record 266 Knights achieved a 3.0 GPA or better in the fall term, which accounts for 64 percent of the UCF student-athlete population. In addition, 26 student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 for the semester. In addition, 24 student-athletes graduated following the fall semester.
Our entire department - especially our student-athletes, coaches and academic support personnel - do an amazing job promoting a culture of academic success at UCF, said Vice President and Director of Athletics Todd Stansbury. UCF student-athletes put in a great deal of hard work and are committed to getting it done in the classroom. Along with our continued performance in Academic Progress Rate and Graduation Success Rate, this is just another reason for us to be proud of our student-athletes, coaches and academic staff.
The Black and Gold softball program earned the highest GPA of the term at 3.50, while men's golf turned in the best men's team score at 3.35. In the midst of a championship, record-setting season, the volleyball squad posted an impressive 3.41. The rowing program has been above 3.0 for 12 straight years. The Knights' football program compiled a 2.92, which marks the fourth time in the last five semesters those student-athletes have averaged 2.90 or better.
We're very proud to be involved with a group of student-athletes who are so focused on success in the classroom and in competition, said Kimya Massey, Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services. These fall grades exemplify the emphasis everyone here at UCF puts on academic achievement.
