TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 21 UCF women's soccer team had a number of highlights during the 2014 season. A regular season league title. The most victories in a season in program history. Their first win over a top-10 team in five years.

But the Knights couldn't find a way to check off one more on their list - an Elite 8 berth. UCF fell in its Sweet 16 matchup at No. 2 Florida State on Sunday night, 1-0.

Kristin Grubka's goal scored in the 60th minute was enough for the top-seeded Seminoles to survive in the Tournament on a rainy day that delayed the originally scheduled kickoff time by six hours.

"We knew how strong FSU was going to be today," UCF head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak said. "I don't have many regrets. I really feel like the team shouldn't either. I'm really proud of them. They fought until the end. I thought defensively we were so solid and didn't give them a lot of chances today. They did everything we asked for and we came up short."

UCF had several near-scoring opportunities in the first half while Connie Organ made two saves, including an incredible punch over the crossbar in the 8th minute to keep things scoreless.

Within the first three minutes, Jennifer Martin intercepted an errant pass from an FSU defender and crossed it over to Ashley Spivey, who sat about 25 yards out. She booted it and it hit the left post.

Spivey nearly scored again late in the half when she was played a ball into the box from freshman Bridget Callahan. Her header just missed the frame and UCF entered the break locked in a 0-0 draw.

The Seminoles finally capitalized on a set piece when senior Tatiana Coleman was cited for a foul in dangerous territory, setting up FSU with a free kick just outside the top, right side of the box. Michaela Hahn's free kick was sent low to the outside for Isabella Schmid, who crossed it into Kristin Grubka for the score.

UCF could never find the equalizer and ended their season with a record of 18-5-0. The Knights were just one of two unseeded teams to advance to the Sweet 16. They earned their eighth-straight NCAA Tournament bid and made their 19th overall appearance in the Big Dance.
