ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Four Knights in double figures helped deliver women's basketball head coach Joi Williams' 100th win at UCF on Monday night.
UCF (2-0) put up a monster offensive onslaught for the second game in a row, blowing by Oakland (0-2) in a 98-65 victory at CFE Arena.
American Athletic Conference Player of the Week Zykira Lewis didn't disappoint with a game-high 28 points fueled by a 6-of-10 performance from 3-point range. She was joined in double digits by Brittni Montgomery, who posted a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds), freshman Nyala Shuler (career-high 15 points) and sophomore Makenzi Reasor (career-high 12 points).
Freshman Fifi Ndour nearly joined the double-double club, as well, with 9 points and 9 rebounds.
"It means a lot to us. She really deserves it. She comes into work every day showing a passion that she wants to be here and that she loves coaching us. We just want to make sure that we get out there and give her the same in return," Montgomery said of Williams' 100th win at UCF. "We have a few things to work on but we're getting better every day as a team and we're just continuing to come out here and giving everything we've got."
UCF notched back-to-back 90-point outings for the first time since 1991. The Knights got an extra boost from the free throw line, where they converted 32-of-42, one free throw shy of matching the school record.
Shuler put the Knights on the board first with her 3-pointer from the left wing, but Oakland would end up leading for much of the half by feeding the ball through its frontcourt.
The Knights reclaimed their lead with two minutes to go when Lewis pulled up at the top of the key for a flawless 3-pointer. Her nine points in those final two minutes were part of a larger 15-0 run that sent the Knights into the locker room with a 35-26 edge.
UCF extended its lead to double digits with Montgomery's put back to open up the second half, 37-26. They never let up, netting 63 points in the second half, to cruise to another commanding win.
Up next, the Knights will have a quick turnaround when they meet Stetson on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the first time in seven years.
Fans can get in on the action all year with the "Season Ticket Card," which is on sale now, starting at $30. Tickets are available today by calling (407) UCF-1000 or buying online by clicking here.
