TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - There were plenty of personal records and program-bests for the Knights Friday as the UCF cross country team placed 14th out of 29 teams at the NCAA South Region Championships in Tallahassee.
The overall finish with 423 points was the best finish ever for the Knights. The previous best was 15th back in 2007. Last year UCF took 19th. The Knights also topped American Athletic Conference foes USF (16th) and Memphis (20th).
We are so proud of everything this team has accomplished this season, Assistant Coach Johnny Gray said. We want to thank everyone who has helped and supported us, especially [head] coach [Jeanette] Bolden.
Junior Anne-Marie Blaney continued to etch her name into the Knights record books, taking fourth overall on Friday. It was the best finish for a UCF harrier ever, topping Blaney's 19th place finish a year ago.
Blaney's time of 19:39.9 on the six kilometer course shattered the school record. She now holds the top three 6K times for UCF cross country, five of the top six, and seven of the top nine. Her previous best was 20:19.45.
She qualified for the NCAA Championship with her performance.
Freshmen Laura Korsmit and Holly Wooley also put forth top 100 performances. Korsmit finished 75th in a time of 21:15.5, while Wolley was 85th in 21:22.1. Freshman Kalleigh Forrester was next for the Knights in 21:50.0, taking 117th.
Junior Amy Ankli rounded out the scoring for UCF. She placed 147th in a time of 22:21.3. Senior Amelia Williams and freshman Rosie Chamberlain took 151st and 159th in 22:32.0 and 22:42.9, respectively.
All seven Knights recorded career best times for a six kilometer race.
