ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF Athletics is taking part in a Shut Out Trafficking Week on campus this week. The Knights have partnered with UNICEF, The National Consortium for Academics (NCAS) and Sports and the Fetzer Institute to raise awareness about human trafficking in the United States.

On Monday, UCF Vice President & Director of Athletics Todd Stansbury moderated a discussion that featured comments from UCF women's soccer head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak and women's soccer student-athlete Allie Gerry.

I was honored to be chosen to moderate a discussion about this important issue, Stansbury said. Moreover, I'm proud that UCF Athletics was one of 10 campus communities who took part in this project this year. Not enough people are aware that human trafficking is an issue in this country, in this state, in this community.

UCF Athletics is using sport to raise awareness of human trafficking. Educational materials will be available at Knights sporting events throughout the week. Emily Pasnak-Lapchick and Dr. Richard Lapchick were the program co-keynotes. Pasnak-Lapchick is the End Trafficking Program Officer for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and Dr. Lapchick is the Chair of the UCF DeVos Sport Business Management Program and President & Founder of the NCAS.

It was an honor just to be asked to be part of the discussion, Roberts Sahaydak said. I have so much respect for Dr. Lapchick and his daughter, Emily. To help represent the athletic department in this effort to educate the university was important to me. I want to learn more about it and how to help.
