KISSIMMEE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF junior Clare Mendell and freshman Monica Matias highlighted the Knights' Saturday with a runner-up finish in the Doubles C Final of the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

The Knights' duo dropped the first set 6-4, but bounced back to knot the match with a 6-3 triumph in the second frame. Jennifer Pfeifler / Mary Katherine Lewis from Auburn won the third-set super tiebreaker 10-2 to take the title.

Sophomore Sofia Baptista also picked up a win for UCF by posting a 6-2, 6-3 vicoty over Oklahoma State's Maria Alvarez in Singles B Consolation.

The pair of junior Caroline Eberhart and freshman Kennan Johnson were unable to secure a berth in the final of Doubles B with a 7-5, 6-3 loss to a tandem from Virginia Tech.

Neither sophomore Cortney Cesarini or Eberhart were able to secure wins to wrap up the event in Singles A Consolation against foes from Columbia and Oklahoma.

The Knights tallied 12 victories during the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational that began on Thursday.

With the fall season complete, UCF now begins preparing for the spring dual-match season that starts on Jan. 17 at the UCF Quad Tournament.
