ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - A perfect Florida fall day, four goals, a shutout and magic.
Sunday's UCF women's soccer match had it all on Harry Potter Fan Day, as the No. 22 Knights treated fans to a 4-0 win over Houston.
Four different Knights netted goals in 45 minutes to roll the team to its eighth-straight win and eighth shutout of the year.
"Overall this weekend I'm really proud of our team's performance. We actually started off a little bit slow, but I really give credit to Houston in the beginning of the match because it was a very tactical game. They dropped in a lot of players, and so to be able to figure out tactically how to get in behind them, it took us some time," UCF head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak said "At halftime we talked about it, and our speed of play got better in the second half. We started combining more, getting in behind, and that's when we were able to score some goals."
The Knights nearly put one away just before halftime when freshman Bridget Callahan advanced a ball in the box that found its way to senior Tatiana Coleman. She connected with the net but not before she was cited for an offside penalty to keep the score scoreless at the break.
Coleman did eventually break through in the 48th minute from 20 yards out, drilling in her eighth goal and fourth game-winner of the year.
Jennifer Martin almost added an insurance goal after receiving a ball from defender Sophie Howard in the box. She headed it past the keeper, but the offside flag raised, and once again a goal was negated.
UCF made up for it in the 67th minute when Martin's corner kick found Callahan in the box, 10-12 yards out. After scoring her first career goal on Friday, she headed this one in for a 2-0 lead.
Senior Kayla Darden got in the mix in the 72nd minute thanks to a breakaway that carried her to five yards in front of the net where she sent a low ball past the keeper for her third goal of the season.
Martin capped off the day with a goal of her own in the 85th minute when she drilled one from 22 yards out at the top of the box.
The Knights limited Houston to just one shot for the match, zero on goal and zero corner kicks. UCF has outscored its opponents by a margin of 29-7 this season. The Knights travel to Tampa to square off against rival USF on Friday at 8 p.m. Last year, UCF won its first American Athletic Conference game on their home field in front of a school-record crowd of 2,706.
