ATLANTA, Ga. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF sophomore Cortney Cesarini notched the lone victory for the Knights Friday afternoon at the USTA/ITA Regional Championship at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
The Bradenton, Fla., native opened the round of 64 in the Singles A bracket with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Hailey Gillo from rival USF. The next opponent for Cesarini is FIU's Yana Koroleva on Saturday at noon.
Junior Caroline Eberhart faced a tough draw on Friday falling against No. 15-seeded Johnnise Renaud from host Georgia Tech, 6-3, 6-1. The Mishawaka, Ind., native now moves to the consolation bracket to battle Masa Grgan from Georgia State at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
In Doubles A, the duo of Ebrhart and Cesarini were unable to upset the No. 6-seeded pair from Florida Kourtney Keegan and Brooke Austin.
The rest of the Knights are back in action on Oct. 24-26 at the Juan Varon Tennis Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla.
