SHOAL CREEK, Ala. (UCFKnights.com) - After posting the best score of the second round, UCF senior Jose Joia is in the top 10 at the Shoal Creek Invitational Hosted by Graeme McDowell. As a team, the Knights are in sixth place in the 12-team event.
Joia posted a 69 in the second round late Monday, after posting a 74 earlier in the day. His two-round total of 143 puts him in a tie for 10th place and at 1-under for the tournament. Alabama's Tom Lovelady leads the way at -8.
Alabama is also in the lead in the team competition. The defending national champion is 10-under and leads North Florida by six strokes. As a team, UCF is 6-over after posting a tally of 290 in the first round and 292 in the second for a total of 582.
Senior Linus Vaisanen was tied for fifth after a first-round 70. But he dropped into a tie for 15th after a second-round 75. He is 1-over for the tournament.
Sophomore Federico Zucchetti is tied for 2nd with a two-round total of 147 (+3) after carding rounds of 73 and 75 Monday. Freshman Thadd Obecny is tied for 33rd with scores of 76 and 74 Monday for a total of 150 (+6). Sophomore Ryan Stovash is tied for 38th and sits at 7-over after turning in rounds of 73 and 78.
The Knights tee off at 7:39 a.m. Tuesday morning for the third and final round of the Shoal Creek Invitational.
