GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Each and every finisher for the UCF cross country team recorded a season best time as the Knights placed fourth out of 13 teams in competition at the Mountain Dew Invitational Saturday.
Junior Anne-Marie Blaney once again paced UCF, placing fourth overall with a time of 17:12.95 on the five kilometer course in Gainesville. It marked Blaney's second fastest 5K time and the third fastest ever by a Knights cross country runner.
She finished behind three Florida harriers, which led the Gators to the victory on their home course. Their 35 points topped runner-up Georgia Tech's 67, and third-place North Florida's 90.
The Knights totaled 117 points to finish ahead the remaining nine teams, which included American Athletic Conference foe USF. The Bulls defeated UCF in the season opener in Tampa.
"The ladies all ran well today," Coach Johnny Gray said. "Our focus was to trust our shape and go out and run to our best capabilities. The results were great!"
For the second straight meet it was Holly Wooley coming in second for the Knights, placing 14th overall in a time of 17:51.23. She followed closely by Laura Korsmit, who crossed the line in 17:58.56 to take 19th.
Rosie Chamberlain and Amelia Williams rounded out the scorers for the Knights on Saturday, taking 39th (18:31.20) and 49th (18:38.20), respectively.
While every UCF runner posted a season best, Williams, a senior, recorded a career best time. Her 18:38.20 was just more than eight seconds faster than her previous best of 18:46.37, and a whole 46 seconds better than her top time in the early part of this season.
The Knights will take next weekend off, before heading to Titusville on Oct. 4 to compete in the FLRunners Invitational.
