CHARLESTON, S.C. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's golf team notched its first top-ten finish of the season Tuesday. The Knights took eighth place in team competition at the Powerade Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Golf Club in Charleston, S.C.

In a field of 23 teams, including powerhouses Duke and UCLA, the Knights got a good sense of how they stack up early in the season. UCF ranked second in pars with 171 combined pars for the tournament and was third best on par 3's with a 3.10 scoring average.

Freshman Laura Sojo was a bright spot for the Knights, as she led the team in scoring each of the three days. She carded eight birdies and an eagle finishing tied for 15th overall.

UCF head coach Emily Marron says the team feels good after this event. Finishing strong will be a point of emphasis in practice but she expects the team will continue to learn and grow as the season progresses.

We have to be really sharp in all areas to compete with the top teams in country, Marron said. There is very little room for error at this level.

Next up for the Knights will be the Schooner Classic, in Norman, Okla. October 4-6.
