GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - A two-run homer by junior third baseman Farrah Sullivan in the fourth inning helped UCF post a 2-1 victory over Florida A&M on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Gainesville Regional. The Knights face Stetson at 6 p.m. with the winner moving on to the regional final on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Junior pitcher Mackenzie Audas (19-11) fanned seven in the complete game victory for the Knights.
Following an infield single by junior second baseman Kahley Novak in the fourth, Sullivan connected on a 3-1 pitch over the fence in straight-away center to put the Knights up 2-1.
The Rattlers had the table set in the fifth following back-to-back singles by Amanda Weaver and Tashay Irvis. A failed bunt that was caught by Sullivan at third and doubled off the runner at first.
A double down the left field line by Alyssa Weaver put FAMU on the scoreboard to cut the Knights lead to 2-1.
With the game-tying run in scoring position for the Rattlers in the bottom of the seventh, Audas buckled down and notched a strikeout looking to seal the victory for UCF.
The Knights look to avenge a 6-4 eight-inning loss to open the regional against Stetson at 6 p.m. Links to free video and Gametracker can be found on the softball schedule page.
