ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Three seniors said goodbye to the UCF Tennis Complex Saturday as the women's team celebrated Senior Day in a 7-0 win against South Carolina State.
Courtney Griffith, Josephine Haraldson and Cassie Hochwalt all completed their careers at the complex and went out in memorable fashion by shutting out the Bulldogs. That helped UCF improve its record to 6-12 on the year.
Grabbing the 1-0 lead through doubles play, Haraldson and partner Sofia Baptista bounced Victoriia Khatcei and Marketa Marcanikova at No. 2, 8-2, and Cortney Cesarini and Clare Mendell got by Oleksandra Filippova and Dakota Brown at No. 3, 8-5.
The Knights then won the next three points in singles to secure the overall win. At the top spot, Haraldson delivered a 6-3, 6-3, decision over Filippova, and Griffith's last singles contest witnessed her post a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win at No. 3 against Intissar Rassif.
At No. 2, Caroline Eberhart topped Klara Dohanlova, 6-4, 6-2, Cesarini duplicated that result against Khatcei at No. 4, Mendell only gave up two games in a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5 vs. Brown and Baptista knocked off Marcanikova at No. 6, 7-6, 7-6.
UCF now looks ahead to the American Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held in Tampa April 17-20.
