ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF junior Fanny Cnops was granted an exemption to play in the Symetra Tour's IOA Golf Classic, this weekend at Alaqua Country Club in Longwood, Fla. After two rounds, the top 70 players plus ties make the cut and are given the opportunity to compete in the final round. Playing in her first ever professional event, Cnops made that cut and teed off at Monday morning in the third and final round.

Cnops started the tournament strong hitting 11 of 18 greens in regulations and finishing Tied for 26th with an opening round score of 71 (E). After struggling on the front nine on day two, Cnops had begun to turn things around but was still below the cutline when play was suspended due to inclement weather and ultimately postponed until the following morning.

Cnops battled back after the delay and was able to shoot even par on the back-nine. After two rounds, she was tied for 65th at +6 and safely above the cutline.

UCF head coach Emily Marron was not surprised by Fanny's determination.

"I'm really proud of Fanny making the cut in her first professional event. This is great experience for her and I think she learned a lot about what it takes to be competitive at the next level," Marron said. "She definitely has the game to play out here and beyond and this weekend has given her that confidence."
