ORLANDO, Fla. ( - Tough conditions nestled over the UCF Tennis Complex Thursday as the UCF women's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to East Tennessee State.

The Knights have been in close matches all season long, as 11 of their 14 contests have resulted in either 4-3 or 5-2 margins.

With the loss, UCF fell to 4-10 in dual-match competition, and the Buccaneers improved to 9-7.

The Black and Gold opened the day with a win at No. 2 doubles as Sofia Baptista and Josephine Haraldson took down Salma Dahbi and Sofia Espana at No. 2, 8-2. But the Bucs were able to snag victories at No. 1 and No. 3 for the doubles point.

The visitors then opened a 2-0 lead with a win at No. 2 singles, only to have UCF storm right back. At No. 3, Caroline Eberhart was off the court quickly thanks to a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Espana. Clare Mendell may have went three sets at No. 6, but the final two also went at a brisk pace as she defeated Dahbi, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. And just as Mendell was grabbing a win, Haraldson topped Giulia Andreazza at No. 1, 6-4, 6-3.

With the final two matches at No. 4 and No. 5 in third sets, the overall match went to ETSU as the Bucs held a comeback of their own to seal the win.

UCF will now prepare for its final two regular-season road matches of 2014 when it heads to Miami to face FIU April 4 and UAB April 5.
