ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Jimmy Skiles has been named Assistant Athletics Director for Fan Development at UCF. A UCF alum and former staff member in UCF Athletics Marketing, Skiles begins his duties with the Knights on March 31.
Skiles will coordinate UCF's athletics marketing and promotions in an effort to continue increasing the profile of the Knights' 16 varsity sports programs, while bolstering fan interest and support.
"There's no place like home," Skiles said. "My wife and I both bleed Black and Gold and we are so excited to be back at UCF. My first job with UCF Athletics was doing the basketball team's laundry in the wee hours of the morning as a student manager, so to return to the school I love in this capacity is a great honor. I'm very thankful for the opportunities I've had at Virginia Tech, but I'm ready to return to Orlando and get to work."
Skiles returns to UCF after nearly three years with Virginia Tech Athletics Marketing and Promotions. Most recently, Skiles was the Director of Marketing and Promotions for the Hokies, holding that position since August of 2012. In that role, he was responsible for a comprehensive marketing and promotions plan for Virginia Tech men's basketball. He also served as the production and game entertainment manager for all men's basketball and women's soccer games at Virginia Tech.
In addition to those duties, Skiles was also heavily involved with football initiatives at Virginia Tech including premium seat sales, student season ticket campaigns, individual game ticket sales and on-field promotions. He also managed all media advertising for the Hokies' 17 sports, supervised a 25-person student intern program and supervised the department's mascot program.
Skiles originally joined the Virginia Tech staff as Assistant Director of Marketing and Promotions in June of 2011.
Skiles served as Assistant Director of Marketing and Promotions for UCF Athletics for three-and-half years before moving on to Virginia Tech.
During his first stint with the Knights, he was part of an effort that saw men's basketball attendance increase by 154 percent. He was also responsible for leading the team that helped volleyball attendance increase by 75 percent.
Skiles was in charge of on-field promotions for UCF football, managed football game-day marketing staff assignments for football and coordinated all of UCF's student-related marketing activities for both football and men's basketball. He was also involved in season and group ticket sales, media advertising, community events and brand development.
"Jimmy has such a great passion for UCF and I'm very pleased that he will be coming back home," UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Todd Stansbury said. "He understands marketing the Knights' programs, because he's done it before. Jimmy's prior experience at UCF and the knowledge and experience he has gained since he left will serve him well in his new role."
Skiles also gained experience serving as an intern at the Conference USA offices and as a graduate assistant at the University of Florida.
Skiles graduated from UCF with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2006. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Sports Management from the University of Florida in 2007.
