STATESBORO, Ga. (UCFKnights.com) - After a slow start, the No. 6-ranked UCF men's golf team came charging back in rounds two and three of the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club. After being tied for ninth with No. 28 Kentucky at the end of day one, the Knights showed their mettle, coming all the way back to finish third place in the 15-team field.
On a tough day for all players Sunday, UCF Junior Linus Vaisanen led the Knights with a one-under par round of 71. In a field of 90, he was one of only eight players who turned in a score under par in the third and final round.
UCF had three golfers finish in the top 20 including senior Greg Eason, who finished tied for tenth overall after carding a 215 (-1). Knights Ricardo Gouveia and Federico Zucchetti would finish tied for 15 shooting even par for the tournament.
In team play, Georgia Southern took the lead in the second round and never relinquished it. UAB managed to hold off the Knights to finish second with UCF taking the bronze. No. 10 Virginia and No. 15 Texas would finish tied for fourth, with College of Charleston rounding out the top five.
Next up for the Knights is the FAU Spring Break Championship, March 28-30 in Lake Worth, Fla.
