LINCOLN, Neb. - The UCF track and field team continued its improvement during the indoor campaign on Saturday to complete the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational at Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Knights eclipsed season-high marks in six events.
Senior Destinee Romain, who surpassed the school record of 20.02m/65-08.24 in the weight throw on day one, tallied a distance 13.82m/45-04.25 in the shot put to claim a season-best. A high jump of 1.65m/5-05.00 was a top mark on the campaign by sophomore Allison Lampert.
A mark of 24.14 by sophomore Christal Peterson provided her with an eighth-place finish and a top time this year. Classmate Caroline Pauls ran the 600m in 1:36.09 for the first time in the indoor campaign for the Knights, while Holly Wooley made her indoor debut in the 3000m recording a time of 10:36.22.
During the special invitation races, senior Erica Winston posted a 2:13.42 in the 800m and sophomore Amelia Williams recorded a 5:11.31 in the mile to surpass season highs. The 4x400 relay team of Sandy Jean, Erica Winston, Ne'Ausha Logan and Afia Charles registered a season-best mark of 3:44.39.
The Knights continue the indoor season on Friday at the Tyson Invitational held in Fayetteville, Ark. The meet is the final tune up for UCF prior to competing in the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championship on Feb. 28-Mar. 1 in New York.
