ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Closing out its February homestand, the UCF women's tennis team suffered a tight 4-3 loss to No. 74 South Alabama Thursday at the UCF Tennis Complex.

The Knights' record fell to 3-4, while the Jaguars stayed undefeated at 6-0.

UCF busted out for an 8-2 win at the No. 3 doubles position when Caroline Eberhart and Clare Mendell topped Paula Sanchez and Laura Matuskova. However, the visitors came through with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 for the doubles point and a 1-0 overall advantage.

Josephine Haraldson would tie things up with her singles victory against Michaela Meszarosova at No. 1, 6-2, 6-3. South Alabama, though, delivered wins at No. 3 and No. 4 for a commanding 3-1 cushion. The Knights fought back, earning a 7-5, 6-2 triumph from Courtney Griffith against Emily Newton at No. 2, and a 7-5, 7-6(5) victory by Cortney Cesarini at No. 5 vs. Mary Angela Martin that lasted more than two hours.

Now all square at 3-3, the lights came on over the court at No. 6 as Mendell and Sanchez battled back and forth. It eventually reached a third-set tiebreaker, with Sanchez pulling away for a 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(4) clinching win.

UCF's second of three road trips is up next as it will head to Furman March 2 and UNC Asheville March 4.
