TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF softball fell 6-1 in its first road test on Wednesday night at No. 10 Florida State on ESPN3. Seminole pitcher Lacey Waldrop fanned 14 in six innings as the Knights (7-1) suffered their first loss of the season at JoAnne Graf Field.

Junior outfielder Kahley Novak picked up both hits for the Knights including a RBI single in the third inning. UCF left a game-high five runners on base against FSU (11-1) including two in the third and fifth.

In the circle, junior Mackenzie Audas (4-1) took the loss with two strikeouts in five innings of work and gave up five earned runs. Sophomore Jamie Ujvari tossed the final frame, retiring the Seminoles in order.

Waldrop (6-1) for FSU kept the UCF hitters off-balance throughout the contest, allowing only six runners to reach base. Jessica Nori fanned one in one inning of relief.

Courtney Senas registered a pair of hits and two RBI for the Seminoles, while Briana Hamilton broke the game open in the fifth with a three-run double in the fifth.

The Seminoles took advantage of a UCF miscue in the first to take the 1-0 lead with one out. Following a visit from head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie, Audas settled down to end the frame with a strikeout and foul out made by sophomore first baseman Samantha McCloskey at the railing on the FSU dugout.

After FSU extended its lead to 3-0, the Knights responded in the top of the third as Novak beat out an infield base hit to shortstop with runners on the corners. A pair of walks drawn by sophomores designated player Shelby Turnier and second baseman Kaitlyn Steckel put presser on Waldrop in the circle.

Freshman shortstop Brittany Solis ended the fourth on a tremendous play by catching a liner behind the bag at third and making a quick toss to first for the double play. It was the third time the UCF defense converted a double play this year.

After a one-out walk drawn by junior outfielder Maddy Schroeder in the top of the fifth, Novak connected on a single up the middle to put runners at the corners. UCF stranded a pair of base runners during the frame.

UCF continues a tough stretch on Friday with a pair of games against McNeese State at noon and No. 9 Alabama at 7 p.m. The Knights face the same two opponents in a doubleheader on Saturday at 5 p.m. before facing Virginia Tech on Sunday at noon.
