ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - After Sunday's record-setting opening round, the Knights held on to first place following Monday's second day of the UCF Challenge, held at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Once again, Ashley Holder and Fanny Cnops led the Knights with impressive scores of 68 (-4) and 70 (-2), respectively. UCF (-9) now holds a two-shot lead over second-place Miami (-7) in the 19-team event. Iowa State came from all the way back in eighth place to hold down third place at -3.
Despite taking the lead into the final round, UCF head coach Emily Marron knows her team needs to stay sharp in order to finish on top.
"It's hard to be disappointed with a minus-3 round, but we left a lot of shots out there today," Marron said. "Eagle Creek is a course where you have to make a lot of birdies to have a chance to win."
Cnops leads the tournament with a two-day score of -7 and has yet to make bogey through two rounds. Holder, who turned in the best score for the Knights on day two, made three birdies early on the back-nine, allowing her to finish only one shot behind Cnops for sole possession of second place.
Kaitlyn Price and Monifa Sealy rounded out the team scoring for the Knights, carding rounds of 73 and 74, respectively on the Par 72 track.
Knights Mary Mulcahy and Paola Robles have been impressive playing as individuals. Mulcahy has been under par (70-71=141) for both rounds of the tournament and sits in a tie for seventh place. Robles is tied for 13th with scores of 72 and 70 for a 142 total.
UCF will tee off at 8:30 a.m. in Tuesday's third and final round, looking to go wire to wire with the lead.
