CHARLOTTE, N.C. (UCFKnights.com) - After opening conference play over the weekend, the UCF men's soccer team returned to non-league competition Tuesday, dropping a 2-0 match to Charlotte at Transamerica Field. The 49ers (4-2-1) scored a pair of second-half goals to claim the win.
The contest was the first of three straight on the road for the Knights (2-4-2). UCF will return to the American Athletic Conference portion of its schedule Saturday at Cincinnati.
After both teams were unable to score in the first half, the 49ers struck in the 51st minute with a score from Giuseppe Gentile. With five minutes left in the match, the hosts added another score when Kyle Parker beat a diving Zach Biggs from the top of the box.
The contest was played in front of 1,244 fans.
Omar Vallejo recorded a pair of shots for the Knights. Biggs stopped five Charlotte shots.
UCF made its debut in The American on Saturday against No. 11 Louisville in Orlando. The Knights will not play again at home until Oct. 9 when they host Memphis.
