KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (UCFKnights.com) - Fanny Cnops is in the lead after one round at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate, being hosted by the University of Tennessee at Cherokee Country Club. Led by Cnops, UCF is tied for fifth in the strong, 17-team field.
The junior transfer opened her round on the 10th hole and proceeded to card birdies on the 11th, 12th and 16th holes to move to 3-under. She hit a rough patch just before the turn, posting bogeys at 17 and 18. But Cnops came back with a pair of birdies - on Nos. 4 and 8 - to finish at 68 (-3) for the day. She shares the lead with South Carolina's Katelyn Dambaugh after one round.
As a team, UCF posted a 2-over total of 286. The Knights are one stroke back of Tennessee, three back of Louisville, four back of Arkansas and eight off the pace of South Carolina, which sits in first place.
Robyn Doig was up and down through her first nine holes, after opening her round on the 10th hole. With three birdies and three bogeys, she was even at the turn. However, she was much more consistent the rest of the day, putting up a birdie on No. 4 to finish the day 1-under 70 and is currently tied for eighth place.
Ashley Holder turned in a scorecard that showed an even-par 71, good enough to tie for 15th place after the first round.
Kaitlyn Price rounded out the UCF scoring on Friday, posting a 6-over score of 77. Monifa Sealy was also in the UCF lineup and turned in a +7 score of 78 in the first round.
